The Marshfield Youth Basketball travel program is open to all boys in grades 4-8.  This program is an option for those players seeking a higher level of competition against teams from other towns.  Players who make a travel team are expected to make basketball their primary winter sport and attend all games and practices.  Please consider the increased level of commitment when deciding whether your child should tryout for a travel team.

We currently sponsor teams in three separate leagues (two teams in each age group) on the South Shore.

The
SOUTH SHORE BOYS LEAGUE (SSYBL), which is the most competitive league, is made up of teams from 12 towns in the South Shore area in grades 6-8.  The teams play a schedule of 18 games plus a possible tournament and playoffs.   The games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sunday evenings. ( see link to SSYBL Website)

The
CRANBERRY BOYS LEAGUE is a league structured specifically for players who don't make the South Shore League.  Also grades 6-8, it is comprised of teams from 11 surrounding area towns.  The teams play a schedule of 16 games, plus a possible tournament and playoffs.  The games are played on Fridays, Saturdays or Sunday evenings.  (see link to the Cranberry League Website)

The
COASTAL PREP BASKETBALL LEAGUE is made up of teams from 9 local area towns in grades 4 and 5.  Marshfield sponsors two teams in each age group (teams are divided up evenly).   All the games are played at home in Marshfield, (other towns travel to us), at the Martinson Elementary School on Saturday afternoons.  Each team plays a schedule of 10 games plus playoffs.

In order to play on the travel team, you must tryout.  There are two tryout sessions for each grade level held in mid-October.

The travel season starts in early December and runs through the beginning of March, with playoffs in the middle to end of March.

Being travel teams, half of the games will be away games and require travel to gyms in other towns ( 6th, 7th & 8th grades only).  Directions to away gyms are posted on the websites of each league.

Practices are held in the evenings during the week at one of the gyms in Marshfield. Teams usually practice once or twice per week depending on the age group, gym availability, and time of season.

Tthe travel program is more competitive than the Saturday Rec Program, and our goal is to field competitive teams and win games.
However, these are not the only goals.  The developement of skills, character, and the TEAM concept, teaching the kids to compete, to believe in themselves, and to always give their best effort, are the most important goals of this program.
